Festivals bring joy, devotion, and togetherness. At the same time, they remind us of our responsibility towards nature. With this thought, Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes (SAGI), Indore, organized a special workshop on Eco-Friendly Ganesha Idol Making on 20th August 2025 at 12:30 pm.

The session was mentored by Mrs. Sarita Sakalley, an Environmental Social Work Specialist, and coordinated by Prof. Shubhangi Sharma Dongre. Together, they guided students and participants through a meaningful journey of creativity and awareness.

Learning Through Creativity

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of India’s most celebrated festivals, but conventional idols made of Plaster of Paris and chemical colors often harm rivers and aquatic life. This workshop encouraged participants to adopt natural clay and eco-friendly materials for idol making, ensuring celebrations that are beautiful yet safe for the environment.

Students enthusiastically participated, shaping Lord Ganesha idols with their own hands. Beyond the art, they discovered the joy of celebrating festivals in a way that preserves the environment for future generations.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop

  • Awareness of the environmental impact of traditional idols.

  • Hands-on experience in creating eco-friendly Ganesha idols.

  • A deeper understanding of how culture and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Step Towards Responsible Celebrations

The event was more than just an art activity; it was a reminder that true devotion lies in protecting nature while honoring traditions. Each participant left with a handcrafted idol and a renewed sense of responsibility towards celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-conscious way.

With this initiative, Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes continues its mission of holistic education, where values, culture, and environmental responsibility come together.
