At some point, how many times have you lowered your self-esteem because of social media? Well, that shared feeling of sadness and loneliness was explored at the Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes' Annual Fest, 'Cognoise 2024'. Students organized an exclusive Nukkad Natak at 56 Dukaan, Indore, focusing on the impact of social media on our emotions. During the performance, we learned why online networks can leave us feeling disconnected. Following the play, we also had a presentation on voting awareness, reminding everyone of the importance of participating in elections. Cool, right?
Usually, these are dramatized historical episodes, organized on the principle of interaction, which involves spectators as actors in the events and scenes.
Try to picture yourself on a street and somewhat unexpectedly seeing a group of performers. That's the way it was in that event, a very important event. The artists performed what it looks like when a single human becomes lonely by using social media for communication purposes. For everyone, it stimulated the contemplation of life.
Voting for the right person, and being aware of the main issues and problems with accountability for a positive change are important features of voting awareness. After the emotional performances, the actors talked about something super important: voting! They explained how important it is for everyone to be vigilant and take part in choosing our leaders. It's like being a superhero for democracy!
Do you know what took place after the fair? Not only did they not return home to forget it; but they also continued to talk about it to each other. People became activists! It proved to be the subject of their working time and serious discussions about mental health and solitude that come from social media. A change was something that they felt strongly about and that they wanted to do together.
Useful Tip: Even the simplest activities, such as initiating a conversation on mental health issues, can help other people in society.
The gathering encouraged a sense of unity within the community. This not only motivated people to interact more but also pushed them to provide help to others and to actively contribute to their community. It illustrated the point that when we come together, we can impact a change in our communities.
So, next time you see something that needs changing, remember: you can in fact become part of the solution- as you witnessed with this program executed by those acclaimed people.
Objective: The primary aim of "Raksham" was to educate students about self-defense techniques and enhance their safety.
