Amid the serene ambience of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Pharmacy (SAIP), Indore, a chorus of 'Om' chants and the synchronized inhalation and exhalation of deep breaths reverberated on June 21, 2023. The occasion was the celebration of International Yoga Day, an event that witnesses the unison of body, mind, and spirit in a powerful, transformative exercise.
The day's activities centered around an enlightening workshop, aptly themed 'The Role of Yoga in Daily Life', aimed at exploring the essence of yoga and its impact on our day-to-day lives.
The workshop was graced with the presence and expert guidance of respected yoga trainers Mrs Neelam Balekar and Dr Shiv Hardenia from the IPS Academy. These dedicated yoga enthusiasts, with their profound wisdom and passion for yoga, helped shape the essence of the workshop.
This grand event resulted from meticulous planning and tireless efforts by the committed SAIP Event Committee. Ensuring seamless organization and coordination were Ms Seemu Singh and Ms Sonam Chaturvedi, who, with their unparalleled commitment and attention to detail, created an environment conducive to learning and personal growth for the 30 enthusiastic participants, which included 18 faculty members, 10 students, and 2 non-teaching staff members.
As participants settled in, the workshop opened the doorway to the fascinating world of yoga, beginning with enlightening introductions of the yoga trainers. The event aimed to delve deeper into the fundamentals of yoga, its origins, its philosophies, and its incredible potential to transform lives. Participants were provided with robust knowledge about beginner yoga steps and encouraged to explore the potential benefits of regular yoga practice.
This hands-on workshop offered a valuable opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in the practice of a wide array of asanas. Starting with a much-needed warm-up session, the event systematically guided participants through a sequence of asanas targeting each body part from head to toe, ensuring a holistic full-body workout.
The journey through asanas included widely practised and highly beneficial yogic exercises such as Chair Yoga, Suryanamaskar, Kapalbhati, Bhastrika, and Anulom Vilom, among others. Each asana was explained meticulously, highlighting the correct posture, the importance of controlled breathing, and the necessary precautions to avoid injuries.
The workshop went beyond the physical practice of yoga to delve into the significant health benefits associated with consistent yoga practice. Mrs Balekar and Dr Hardenia detailed how yoga is potent in combating modern-day stress and lifestyle diseases, fostering better physical fitness, mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall well-being.
The workshop accomplished its objective of providing comprehensive knowledge about the basics of yoga. It answered critical questions about the best time to practice yoga, the benefits of different asanas, and the diseases that can be effectively managed through consistent yoga practice.
The attendees' response was resoundingly positive, reflecting the workshop's success. Mrs Arpna Indurkhya praised the informative nature of the session and the understanding it provided about yoga's benefits. Similarly, Mr Mahendra Patel appreciated the clear instructions about yoga asanas' dos and don'ts and the need for daily yoga practice.
The 'Role of Yoga in Daily Life' workshop was not just an event but a journey towards holistic health and wellness. The tranquil corridors of SAIP resonated not just with the echoes of 'Om' but with the spirit of health, vitality, and a deep understanding of yoga's transformative power, reflecting the profound impact of the workshop on the participants.
More than just an event, the International Yoga Day workshop represented SAIP's unwavering commitment to holistic development and well-being. It stood as a testament to the Institute's dedication to fostering an environment that nurtures healthy, well-rounded individuals, ready and equipped to contribute positively to the world.
