SAIT Organizes Two-Day National Workshop on IPR Awareness, Innovation and Research

Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology (SAIT), Indore, organized a Two-Day National Workshop on “IPR Awareness, Innovation and Research” on 1–2 September 2026, with the workshop Catalysed & Supported by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science & Technology (MPCST), Bhopal.

The workshop was organized with the objective of developing a stronger understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), innovation, research commercialization and the protection of intellectual assets among faculty members, research scholars and students. Bringing together experts from academia, research, industry, entrepreneurship and innovation, the two-day programme provided participants with valuable insights into both the fundamentals and practical applications of intellectual property.

Building Awareness Around Intellectual Property and Innovation

The workshop commenced with Saraswati Vandana and ceremonial lamp lighting, followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Aaquil Bunglowala, Director, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology, Indore.

The inaugural technical session was conducted by Prof. Ruchi Sharma, Professor of Economics and IPR Chair Professor, IIT Indore, who spoke on “IPR – An Introduction.” The session introduced participants to the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights and highlighted their growing significance in research, innovation and knowledge-driven development.

The next session focused on the important connection between academic research and its commercial potential. Mr. Sridhar Seshadri, Managing Partner, Everest AI VC Inc., delivered a session on “Research Commercialization: Transforming Academic Innovations into Intellectual Property Assets.” He emphasized the importance of translating research outcomes and academic innovations into valuable intellectual property while discussing the broader opportunities and challenges associated with research commercialization.

The first day concluded with a technical session by Dr. Anurag Shrivastava, Adjoint Professor, Lincoln University & Multimedia University, Malaysia, on “Empowering Faculty with IPR.” The session focused on strengthening faculty awareness, participation and engagement in intellectual property-related activities.

From Patent Filing to Startup IP Strategy

The second day of the workshop shifted towards the more practical and strategic dimensions of intellectual property.

Mr. Dhruv Patel, Incubation Manager, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, conducted a session on “Patent and its Filing Process.” The session provided participants with practical insights into patents and the various stages involved in the patent filing process, helping them better understand how innovative ideas and research outcomes can be protected.

This was followed by a session on “IPR Strategy for Startups” by Dr. Anupam Mandloi, Vice Principal, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology, Indore. The session highlighted the importance of developing an effective intellectual property strategy for startups and emerging ventures, particularly those working with innovative technologies, products and research-driven solutions.

The final technical session, again conducted by Mr. Dhruv Patel, introduced participants to other significant areas of intellectual property protection, including Geographical Indication (GI), Integrated Circuits (IC) and Plant Variety Protection. The session broadened participants’ understanding of the diverse forms of intellectual property and their relevance across different sectors.

Encouraging a Culture of Research and Innovation

The workshop concluded with a Valedictory and Certification Ceremony, providing participants an opportunity to reflect on the knowledge and insights gained during the two-day programme. Certificates of participation were presented to the participants in recognition of their involvement in the workshop.

Prof. Amit Holkar, Head Academics, SAIT, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing appreciation to the resource persons, organizers and participants for contributing to the success of the programme.

The workshop witnessed active participation from faculty members, research scholars, and undergraduate and postgraduate students. The interaction with experts from diverse fields provided participants with an opportunity to exchange ideas, understand emerging possibilities in intellectual property, and explore avenues for research, innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration.

Through initiatives such as this national workshop, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology, Indore, continues to strengthen its focus on research, innovation and entrepreneurship while encouraging greater awareness of intellectual property among its academic community.

By creating opportunities for students, researchers and faculty members to engage with experts and understand the journey from research and innovation to intellectual property protection and commercialization, SAIT seeks to foster an ecosystem where ideas can be protected, developed and translated into meaningful real-world impact.

The workshop thus served not only as an awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights but also as a platform to encourage participants to view research and innovation through a broader lens—one that connects knowledge creation, intellectual property, entrepreneurship and practical application.
