Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology (SAIT) students had a special and productive day on 28th June 2024 through an industrial visit to Kriti...
In an inspiring session held on October 21, 2024, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Technology (SAIT) welcomed Dr. Ajit Sabnis, Principal Consultant at ASP-SDI, Bangalore, for an insightful discussion on sustainability. SAIT students, faculty, and staff were behind this event, which aimed to create awareness and develop practical methods for environmental conservation. It constitutes a great move forward to make SAIT a greener place.
Dr. Sabnis started the event with his warm welcome to the event, a person of great responsibility for the scalability of the sustainability movement. An impactful presentation was set by his expertise in sustainable development and his vast experience. His Concept Note on Sustainability introduced attendees to his notion that convention must give way to sustainability and innovative solutions.
Dr. Sabin's address covered many relevant topics including the challenges of climate change the need for resource conservation and how technology can help to reduce carbon footprints. He offered a mix of theory and practice, by highlighting the reality of our current impact on the environment with a bid for a more sustainable future starting right now.
It was a session that provided invaluable insights into actionable measures that could be taken not only at an institutional level but personal level as well. Here are some of the key points covered by Dr. Sabnis:
Understanding Sustainability: Dr. Sabnis explained the three pillars of sustainability—environmental, social, and economic—and how these elements have to come together to produce long-term positive results.
Innovative Green Practices: In multiple case studies, he demonstrated how organizations have successfully lowered their ecological footprint by incorporating sustainable practices within the operation. These included sustainable building designs, waste reduction, and water conservation.
Role of Youth in Sustainability: Dr. Sabnis also highlighted the crucial role being played by young professionals and students in shaping a sustainable future. He urged the students to be mindful consumers, to practice environmentally responsible choices, and to participate in doing their part in sustainability and initiatives on campus and beyond.
The interactive Q&A session was one of the more engaging parts of the event. However, students and faculty took full advantage of the opportunity to inquire with Dr. Sabnis about what practical implementation of green practices is and where environmental policy stands globally. The questions demonstrated a real commitment to the environment and wanting to contribute in a positive way to sustainability goals.
A student from SAIT's engineering department asked about the role renewable energy plays in lowering carbon footprints. To that, Dr. Sabnis dug into how solar and wind, as well as bioenergy, are growing while also stressing the significance of energy efficiency across industrial and residential sectors.
The event with Dr. Sabnis was a continuation of SAIT’s dedication to sustainable development, with various initiatives already underway across the campus. In policies, SAIT's administration has encouraged sustainability, including campus-wide waste management programs, water conservation projects, and paperless projects. This session solidified the institute’s commitment, to implement sustainable practices within the institute and also to inspire students and faculty to do the same.
Features like this are a reminder that SAIT is a forward-looking institution that is not only providing academic excellence, but a culture of environmental responsibility. Through compelling conversations with students and faculty on sustainability, SAIT is showing the way for other institutions to engage students and faculty in green practices in educational spaces.
The session ended with it being evident that Dr Sabnis’ message had struck so deeply that the attendees wouldn't have forgotten it anytime soon. His call to be proactive and bring change sustainably resonated with SAIT students and the auditorium was left filled with the hope, determination, and dedication to solve problems that SAIT students are so good at bringing.
This was a timely reminder that sustainability starts with awareness, education, and a shared commitment to taking action. At SAIT, it’s an ongoing journey with students, faculty, and staff all in the fight for a greener tomorrow. This ongoing commitment to act includes SAIT's plans to host other such sessions and workshops to help provide students with the knowledge and tools needed to help the environment positively.
The session with Dr. Ajit Sabnis was a call to action and to learn, and as we conclude, we want to drive action not just learn. To continue to prepare students for a green future and a brighter tomorrow, SAIT is a catalyst for change in a green way.
