Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes (SAGI) celebrated India's 78th Independence Day enthusiastically and empathetically. Organized on the open grounds of the campus, the day was filled with several activities that pointed towards freedom and patriotism. Professors, students, and all the staff held the event to pay tribute to the nation’s heroes and to value the idea of independence, togetherness, and advancement.
The day commenced with a flag hoisting ceremony by the Honourable Vice President of SAGI, Mr. Kinshuk Trivedi in the presence of Directors of other institutes of SAGI. The flag was then raised and this was succeeded by the singing of the national anthem by everyone present in the event, a move that ensured unity and pride among the people.
In his speech, Mr. Trivedi stressed keeping the spirit of the freedom fight alive and the role of youth in the overall nation-building process. However, he was quick to add that Independence Day is not only a day for celebration but a strong portrayal of the responsibilities citizens of this large nation have the honor to bear.
The festivities were followed up by various activities involving cultural performances whereby the students entertained their audience by singing patriotic songs, dancing, and dramatizations. These performances were meant to showcase the cultural diversity of India, and the uniqueness of this country.
A segment was made specifically for ‘Unity in Diversity,’ wherein students from all states of India performed traditional dances and songs of their respective states. This segment was not only fun-filled but also informative as it gave a glimpse into how much cultural and ethnic diversity is there in the country.
The event also included speeches by students, faculty members, and other guest speakers on the importance of the Independence Day celebration. The speakers invoked the masses using quotes from the freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Subhas Chandra Bose. All these speeches were a constant of setting a free, equal, and just nation and reminded people about the set principles.
In memory of freedom fighters, the students of SAGI had also put up the “Wall of Heroes” where pictures of some of the most important leaders of the Indian Freedom Struggle were put up. Every picture had a caption that described their achievements and role in the fight for the independence of the country. Such a wall was an eye-sore being an indicator of the price paid by such heroes and the existence of their monuments.
During the independence celebration at SAGI, the students were very much involved in various activities. Right from the preparation of the event to the vocal performance on the day of the event, students assumed the role of coordinators. In every activity, it was apparent how passionate they were and how much they wanted the event to be a success and it indeed was memorable.
That is why the activity of students in such events encourages such values as responsibility and cooperation in teambuilding, the formation of patriotism, and respect for the country. SAGI aims to promote such values in its students and equip them with the moral standard that will enable them to rightfully take up responsibilities in the country.
It was not just a festive day at SAGI, it was also a day for one to sit back and think. The event was rounded off with a pledge-taking exercise where students and members of staff pledged their support to the development of the nation, modern humanism, and the spirit of democracy. The ceremony was a representation of the fact that nation-building is an ongoing process and is participatory.
Education, as provided by the Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes, has always aimed at the development of the student in all aspects and this includes the appreciation of national celebrations such as Independence Day. The institute also firmly supports the role of education not only as a platform for acquiring knowledge but as a process whose purpose is to raise responsible citizens for the nation and its people.
On India’s 78th Independence Day, SAGI renews itself to prepare future generation leaders for the country and prepare them to uphold the spirit of democracy, freedom, and justice.
The Independence Day 2024 celebration held in Sri Aurobindo Group of Institutes was a huge success, entertaining and engaging the students with rich patriotic feelings and colors of cultural assimilation. The essence of the observed event suggested that the institute was doing it to promote the feeling of patriotism and responsibility among students. As the day concluded, the message was clear: the search for freedom goes on, and every person has to work towards the development of the country.
